Horse camping for Woods Lake To Navajo Lake

This is a steady climb up from camp through winding forest trails. Once you’re out of the trees at over 11,000 feet and above the tree line, the views are spectacular. We made our way toward Navajo Lake and began our descent. It’s a steep trail down, but very manageable. You’ll have a chance to relax at the lake and take in the sheer beauty of it all.

The climb out of the lake area is a workout for the horses, so we kept plenty of space between us and took it slow. On the way back, the views from this direction are just as amazing. There’s an elevation gain of more than 2,700 feet, so you’ll want to make sure your horses are in good shape for this one.

This is easily one of my all-time favorite rides.
